The New Urban Agenda, adopted at Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador, on 20 October 2016, presents a paradigm shift based on the science of cities and lays out standards and principles for the planning, construction, development, management and improvement of urban areas. The New Urban Agenda is intended as a resource for different actors in multiple levels of government and for civil society organizations, the private sector and all who reside in urban spaces of the world. The New Urban Agenda highlights linkages between sustainable urbanization and job creation, livelihood opportunities and improved quality of life, and it insists on incorporation of all these sectors in every urban development or renewal policy and strategy.

Richard Rogers presents a program of action for the future of cities. It demonstrates the influence of architecture and urban planning on everyday lives, and warns of the impact modern cities can have on the environment Recommended by Eduardo Souza

People like to keep certain distances between themselves and other people or things. And this invisible bubble of space that constitutes each person's "territory" is one of the key dimensions of modern society. Hall introduced the science of proxemics to demonstrate how human's use of space can affect personal and business relations, cross-cultural interactions, architecture, city planning, and urban renewal Recommended by Christele Harrouk

The planning, design and operation of urban drainage systems (UDS) is a domain of civil engineers. Whereas technical progress in planning and design was strongly stim ulated by research and development, the operational problems have received comparatively little attention. Since an increasing num ber of UDS are equipped with sensors and data collection systems, knowledge is being gained of actual operational performance. Appropriate control systems (i.e. hardware) and control strategies (i.e. software) are being developed in order to use the existing systems better and to increase UDS performance to the maximum. In 1986 the IAWPRC/IAHR Joint Committee on Urban Storm Drainage commissioned a group of engineers and scientists to study the technical developments in the field of realtime control of urban drainage systems (RTCUDS). Initially the task group focused on the compilation of the present knowledge on RTCUDS. The result is this state-of-the-art report. It is planned to keep the report up-to-date and, ultimately, extend it so that it can be used as a RTCUDS planning, design and operations handbook. 076b4e4f54
